"Okay so where do I start? Words are not really enough to describe the feelings I’ve experienced tonight. My senses were assailed with movement, images, narrative and theatricality. The dinner performance blew me away completely. Plus I have a balloon – if only all nights ended like this." - Audience Feedback BE FESTIVAL 2010
BE FESTIVAL is Birmingham's first international performing arts festival. We bring 15 emerging companies from across the UK and Europe to perform for 4 days in the atmospheric AE Harris Venue in the Jewellery Quarter. All acts in the main festival are competing for a £1500 development prize. We are also programming 4 shows from last year around the main festival as part of our partnership with mac (Midland Arts Centre.) We offer a free programme of talks, public masterclasses and visual arts as well as a youth development project (BE NEXT). For the main programme we only charge £10 a night to see 4 - 30 minute shows as we believe the price should be accessible and affordable. We receive a grant from the Arts Council and we have secured an enormous amount of support-in-kind from the major Birmingham arts organisations for which we are enormously thankful, but putting on a 4 day festival is costly stuff. To help us fully realise our vision for an accessible, diverse and artistically adventurous festival this year we are seeking support from We Funders. Your help will give the next generation of UK and European performing artists a platform to show, explore and develop their work. Who knows, maybe the next Complicite, Mark Rylance, Matthew Bourne or even Picasso will be among them.
WE ARE ALSO RUNNING A COMPETITION FOR ALL PLEDGERS - SEE 'BLOG'
